Clyde Junior Davis

April 13, 1924 — March 18, 2014

Clyde J. Davis, born April 13, 1924 passed away on March 18, 2014 at Cornerstone Village South. The son of Clyde Owen and Anna Gray Davis, Clyde was an only child who was born and reared in the town of Okmulgee, OK as was his future wife, Doris Condrey. After high school, Clyde enlisted in the Army and served in France during WWII. He then returned to Oklahoma to attend OU, where he earned a degree in English, and married Doris in 1948. His degree in English served him well as he went on to enjoy a long career in radio and television broadcasting in places including Oklahoma City and later in Denver, CO. Clyde loved being an anchorman and his position afforded him many opportunities to travel and interview many fascinating people including numerous politicians and entertainers. After he retired, he and Doris relocated to Taos, NM where they lived for a number of years, enchanted with life in the Southwest while Clyde continued doing radio commercials for local businesses and working in an art/furniture gallery. Clyde always had a positive attitude and an extremely good nature. Interested in everything and everyone, he had a love of words, was full of curiosity on any number of subjects, and was an avid book collector and clipper of interesting newspaper articles. Unbeknownst to many, Clyde was an archivist and chronicler of the times through journals, photographs, and newspapers dating back to the 1940’s. He and Doris also enjoyed building a rather extensive collection of southwestern art. In the early 1990’s, Clyde and Doris moved to Lafayette, LA in order to be closer to family. While here, he enjoyed the symphony, taking walks through his lovely neighborhood, keeping up his yard, corresponding with friends all over the country, and taking trips in their motor home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind Doris, his wife of 65 years, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews spread around the country who will remember their Uncle Clyde with great fondness, affection and numerous anecdotes. A graveside service will take place in the Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee, OK on Saturday, April 12 at 10:00 AM with Charlie Green officiating. Services are under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee. www.jacksonfhandcrematory.com
