A memorial service for Christy will be Friday, July 17, 2020 at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service at 2:00 PM. Please be respectful of the efforts to keep social distancing, although mask are not required, we do encourage wearing them. The service will be streamed through Facebook Live. Christy DeAnne Hughes Pickens was born August 18, 1973. She was 46 years old when she died. Christy was living in Denver, Colorado at the time. She had perviously lived in Thorton, Colorado, Oklahoma City, OK, Stillwater, OK, Tulsa, OK, and Glenpool, OK. Christy died on June 18, 2020 in Denver, CO from health problems.
Christy was born at St. Johns Hospital in Tulsa, OK to John and Karen Hughes. She is survived by a brother John T. Hughes of Jenks, OK. Her sister Laura Nieves preceded her in death. She also had a niece, Kaylan Hughes and nephew Keegan Knouse. Her grandparents were George and Monteen Holland of Duncan, OK.
She attended Glenpool schools and OSU. At OSU she started as a music major after playing throughout high school and for the OSU marching band, but after taking a science class in Geology she changed her major and never looked back. After graduation, she worked for the United States and the State of Oklahoma as a Land Reclamation Geologist. In Colorado, she was a state inspector for the Colorado Department of Public health and Environment. Her major interest at all jobs was for water quality.
She had a brief service with the U.S. Army. She was in basic training at Fort Leanord Wood and then to nursing training at Fort Sam Houston. She was not able to finish the nurse training, but she never got over her love for nursing, later being an EMT and an ER Tech for Denver Trauma Hospital.
She developed a love for walking the mountains of Colorado and while in the military she also found a passion for shooting.
Christy was a loving and caring daughter, aunt, friend and was a very independent person.
