Christine Elaine (Smith) Hackney, 74, of Skiatook, OK, passed away on July 29, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Christine was born on August 31, 1948, in Weleetka, OK, to Charles Smith and Mildred Smith. Christine, lovingly known as "Chris," was raised in Weleetka by her grandparents, Joseph, and Dennie Lee Morgan, alongside 10 aunts and uncles until the age of 7. She went on to live with foster families until the age of 14 when she was reunited with her mother in Tulsa. Chris graduated from Tulsa Central High School in the spring of 1966. After graduation, she went on to cosmetology school.
On December 2, 1969, Chris married James, and to this union, they had two daughters: Sandra and Jeanna. In January of 1990, Chris became a widow, leaving the entire family devastated by the early and unexpected passing of James. As the months went by, Chris decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in healthcare. In November of 1991, she graduated from Bryan Institute as a Certified Medical Assistant. She continued to work and train in the medical field over the next 25 years before retiring in 2017.
Chris married David Thomas Hackney on July 31, 1992. She took on the role of "bonus mom" right away and helped raise David's young children: Matthew, Adam, and Amber. Chris and David enjoyed many of life's adventures together, as they were married for almost 31 years. They loved traveling anywhere they could, especially Texas, where they would visit family and old friends. Unfortunately, Chris passed 27 hours from hers and David's 31st wedding anniversary.
Chris was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. There were no greater loves in her world than that of her family, especially her children and grandchildren. Additionally, her beloved dogs, Diego and Selma, were one of her greatest joys in life, and she definitely treated them as if they were her children (which they obviously were). Chris also enjoyed spending time with her friends in her spare time as well as proudly serving her Lord and Savior alongside her church family.
To Chris, neither her children, grandchildren, dogs, nor God could do her wrong. She kept her faith strong throughout the years, and this mentality is what made her the independent, determined, and brilliant woman that she was. Chris had a light within her that was not easily dimmed. She will be forever missed by those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Her family would like to thank everyone who was there for her during her 11-month battle with cancer. A special thank you to her church family, who was there for her every step of the way.
Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mildred Smith, her husband James Shirley, and her daughter Amber Hackney.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Hackney, her daughter Sandra Shirley Mullins, her husband Jeff Mullins, grandson Wyatt Ramsey, her daughter Jeanna Collins and husband Rex Collins, grandchildren Travis, Daniel, and Carrie Collins as well as her sons Matthew Hackney and Adam Hackney.
The pallbearers - her son, son-in-law, and grandsons will be the ones to assist in delivering Chris to her final resting place.
