Christan Paul Mai, a cherished husband, father, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 73, surrounded by the love of his family.
Chris was born on July 16, 1951. He graduated from Torrington High School (1969) in Wyoming before pursuing higher education at the University of Wyoming where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1973 and his Juris Doctorate (JD) in 1977.
Chris devoted his early years as a lawyer to the Attorney General's Office in Cheyenne, Wyoming. When he moved to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in 1980, Chris joined the Oil and Gas legal division of the Cities Service Company in Tulsa. Over the years he worked with several companies but stayed in the oil and gas field. In 2000 he transitioned to family law, where he served as a dedicated and compassionate solo practice attorney in Broken Arrow until his retirement in 2021.
But his real passion was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda S. Mai, and a wonderful family that includes his brother K. Fred (Linda) Mai, brother M. Daniel (Norma) Mai, daughters Shannon (Nathan) Smith, Jenny Mai, and Kortney (Thomas) Sourber, son Derek (Rebekah) Mai, stepdaughter Jane (Adam) Abramson, stepson Andrew (Beth) Seal, and stepdaughter Sandy (John) Gildersleeve. Belva Skinner and Teresa Mai are his children's loving mothers.
He had twelve grandchildren who meant the world to him. Carly Long, Weston Long, Hilary Smith, Isiah Smith, William Smith, Brady Mai, Sadie Abramson, Milo Abramson, Julia Gildersleeve, Camille Gildersleeve, Margot Gildersleeve and Nora Seal.
Chris is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Carolyn Mai.
Chris was famous for his tall ice cream sundaes and his impeccable Christmas wrapping. He was an avid college football fan, loved playing games with family and friends, looked forward to long road trips, and enjoyed working in the yard. However, he never wore a bigger smile than when he was riding his dirt bike.
Countless friends, neighbors, and relatives will miss him dearly. Chris leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, faithfulness and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Service of Victory in Chris' honor will take place at 2:30 PM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 400 N. Aspen Ave, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, officiated by Rev. Benjamin Braun. Immediately following the celebration, everyone is invited to a reception in the gym.
