Charlotte Anne Erwin

Charlotte Anne Erwin, age 93 passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Tulsa Jewish Retirement Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Charlotte was born on May 18, 1922 to Arthur Gilkison and Lela May (Fairley) Gilkison in Cheyenne, Kansas. She grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma and graduated from Muskogee High School with the class of 1940. She attended Oklahoma A & M College and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Charlotte married Ralph W. Wright who took flying lessons at OSU before he enlisted into the Army Air Force. His plane crashed on his 17th bombing mission enroute to Berlin. Many know the story of this event years after when the Movie, Memphis Belle was released. She became a widow when she was five months pregnant. Charlotte taught science and math - first in Muskogee schools and continued teaching at Grimes Elementary School and Nimitz Junior High for a total of thirty-five years of teaching. She retired in 1997.

Charlotte was a professional volunteer. She was a Charter Volunteer at Tulsa Airport and worked at the Information Desk for thirty-nine years she was the "Airport Ambassador". She volunteered at Children's Medical Center for six years as a "Greeter". She also volunteered for six years at the Triad Eye Center; and ten years at Tulsa Spine & Specialty Hospital as an “Ambassador.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ralph Wright, and her son, Ralph "Mike" Wright, Jr. who passed away in 2007.

Charlotte is survived by her friend, Judi E. Grove and family of Tulsa, her nephew, Donald Gilkison and family of Franklin, TN along with many other friends, and acquaintances.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at New Haven United Methodist Church, 5603 S. New Haven Avenue, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Reverend Cindy Havlik will officiate.
