Charles R. Stoughton age 89 went to be with our Lord, Sunday, August 14, 2005 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Stoughton was born September 29, 1915 to Alfred and Ruth Schroeder of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. His father, Alfred, was deported during World War I and was never heard from again. His mother, Ruth, married a gentleman by the name of Roy Stoughton and he adopted Charles. When Charles was ten years old his mother became ill and passed away suddenly. His step-father, Mr. Stoughton, signed custody of Charles over to his wife's brother, Byron Hutchison, who raised him through high school. Charles graduated from high school in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania and attended college at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana where he received a Bachelors Degree in Sociology. He spent three years as a missionary for the Church of God in the country of Kenya. He served with the United States Army at the end of World War II. After the war he settled in southern California and began working for the State of California with the Employment Department where he met the love of his life, Jamie Ruth. They married July 6, 1956.
Mr. Stoughton retired from the State of California in 1978 and along with his family he resettled in southeastern Oklahoma to fulfill his dream of owning a farm, raising animals and working in a garden. Charles' beloved wife, Jamie, went home to be with our Lord on October 13, 1986 and was there to meet Dad at the gates of heaven. We can see them being reunited after 19 years sitting on the front porch swing and mom just said, Chuck, what would you like for supper?
Charles Stoughton was preceded in death by both parents, his loving wife, Jamie and son, Frank Michalek.
He is survived by his daughters: Patricia Bohanon, her husband, Russell; Ruth Lauck, her husband, Larry; Josephine Michalek and Shirley Plank and her husband, John.
