Charles Osward Christian

Charles Osward Christian passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 at St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa, OK surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born January 8, 1926 to Matthew Henry (Buck) and Ruth (Bledsoe) Christian in Idabel, OK.

He graduated from Idabel High School with the Class of 1944. He left high school early to join the U.S. Navy and served in World War II and the Korean Conflict as a Radarman Second Class on an LST. His total Net Service: 07 yrs. 03 mos. 23 days.

Charles married Betty Louise Cline on September 18, 1949 at the First Baptist Church in Eureka Springs, AR. They were married for 66 years until Betty’s death.

Charles worked nights for the Frisco Railroad in Tulsa, OK until one rainy night he decided that,“he needed to find a better way to make a living.” While working for the railroad at night he enrolled at the University of Tulsa taking daytime classes.

He graduated from the University of Tulsa with a bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He went to work for the Tuloma Oil Company in Tulsa, OK which was later purchased by AMOCO Oil Company. Charles and his family were transferred to Chicago, IL in 1968. Charles and his family resided in the northwest suburb of Elk Grove Village, IL. He made many new friends at work and in the community. He prided himself with having the greenest yard on the block, a passion which he carried on for most of his life. While at AMOCO he worked in the payroll and benefits area of AMOCO and its subsidiary companies.

Always remembering his Oklahoma roots, he had the opportunity to open a Dairy Queen Restaurant in his hometown of Idabel, OK. He opened his first one and then opened a companion Dairy Queen in the nearby town of Hugo, OK. He operated these for several years as an absentee owner and then he sold the restaurants and remained with AMOCO until his retirement in 1985.

He was devoted husband and loving father that always stated that he had “the best family in the world.” He had passions for Cadillacs, live country music, gardening, fishing, cooking on his Hasty Bake, and anything to do with his family.

Charles is survived by his; daughter, Catherine (Christian) Wysopal and her husband, George; son, Matt Christian and his wife, Katherine; grandchildren; Amanda (Wysopal) Kester and her husband, Andy, Adam Wysopal, A.J. Wysopal, Allison Christian, Grant Cline Christian; and great grandchildren, Hadley Kester, and Colton Kester.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 am Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service Chapel, with Rev. Gary Volz officiating.
