Charles Lester Morton

January 16, 1951 — July 20, 2022

Charles "Charlie" Morton, age 71, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, in his hometown of Jenks, Oklahoma.
Charlie was born on January 16, 1951, in Montrose, Colorado to Charles L. Morton Sr. and Ella Gene Speed Morton. Charlie spent much of his adolescence in Colorado City, Texas before moving to Oklahoma where he graduated from Jenks High School.
He is survived by his sister, June Simpson, and her beloved partner, Cecil; brother Marvin Morton and his wife Dixie; brother Wayne Morton and his wife Cassie; daughter Anna Morton Pettigrew and husband, Tim; son Charles "Chip" Morton and his wife Brenda; grandchildren, Trinity and Jett Morton, Hannah Weeden, Justin and Alyssa Pettigrew, Sarah Travis and her husband Cody; great-grandson Cutler; niece and nephews Meredith, Jason, Bobby Morton and John Simpson.
Charlie was especially close to June's son, John, and Cecil's children, and grandchildren as well as Bobby Morton. To them he was known as "Uncle Mort" and they truly loved him. Charlie took great pleasure in teasing them mercilessly.
Charlie was a Master Mason and a member in good standing of the East Gate Lodge #630. He was also a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and a proud Shriner, often volunteering his time to transport sick children to one of the many Shriner hospitals around the country.
Charlie was mechanically inclined and a natural leader. Throughout his professional life he was employed as a welder, pipe inspector, and foreman for many major corporations. He was a proud member in good standing of UA Local 441 in Wichita, Kansas.
Charlie had a passion for sports and coached youth football, baseball, and basketball. He rarely missed the University of Oklahoma football games or PGA Major Championships. He was an accomplished competitive Skeet Shooter with many awards. Not only did Charlie enjoy sailing but also spear and fly fishing as well as skiing. He cherished motorcycle touring and games of chance like Texas Hold'em, Blackjack, and Dice.
Charlie adored traveling and frequented many exotic destinations such as Antigua, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Panama, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, India, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam along with other places, too numerous to name.
Charlie will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, but most importantly, he will be remembered for his volunteer work, his mischievous wit, and charm.
