Charles Ira Mcnew

Charles McNew, longtime resident of the Morris and Okmulgee area, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the age of 75. Charles was born December 29, 1937 in Morris, Oklahoma to George McNew and Nancy (Goldsmith) McNew. Charles grew up in the Morris area and attended Morris Public School. He retired in March 2000 after 40 years as a heavy equipment operator for the Oklahoma Natural Gas Company. He loved to play and watch football, at which his favorite team was the Morris Eagles. He enjoyed visiting his many friends at the local restaurants around town. Charles was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Arnold Dean (Cricket) McNew and John McNew. Survivors include his wife, Jan of the home in Okmulgee; son, Charles Russell McNew of Okmulgee; son, Tim McNew and wife, Rachel of Okmulgee; daughter, Barbara Wetherbee; daughter, Linda Manns and Tim Perryman of Okmulgee; daughter, Tammy Stephenson and husband, Steve of Muldrow, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren and one on the way; thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Bert McNew and wife, Dolly of Osyka, Mississippi; sister-in-laws, Jo Ann Briscoe of Henryetta, Judy Roberts and husband, Don of Burkburnett, Texas and Jennifer McKay and husband, Stan of Tulsa; brother-in-law, Bill Briscoe and wife, Jean of Wichita Falls, Texas, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Grissom officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Okmulgee Cemetery under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Marvin Manns, Tanner Manns, Wade Burrow and Tyler Terrio.
