Charles Luke Hurst, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away on November 9, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 76. Born on October 25, 1948, in Altus, Arkansas, to J.B. and Thelma Hurst, Charles lived a life full of adventure, service, and love, leaving behind a legacy of joy and laughter that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Charles proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army in the Vietnam War, where he was a distinguished door gunner in the 1/30 Airmobile Artillery Unit. He completed 108 Air Combat Assaults and earned several Air Medals for his bravery and dedication. His time in the Army was a source of immense pride for him, and he carried that honor throughout his life, always proud to have served his nation with courage and distinction.

After his military service, Charles found his second calling working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Keystone Lake. Whether it was park maintenance, dam work, or any task that came his way, Charles was the go-to man who could get it done. He was a problem solver, a hard worker, and someone who took pride in making sure everything was shipshape.

But beyond his service and work, Charles was the life of every party and the "Mayor of Good Times." He had a spirit that couldn't be contained-he loved racing cars, hunting, hitting the gun range, and spending time at the casino, where it was often said, "The casino loved him as much as he loved it." Charles was a natural-born entertainer who could make any gathering unforgettable. He was the first to start the fun, whether it was waterskiing behind his boat or just making everyone laugh with his infectious humor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy, who stood by his side through every adventure. Together, they raised two wonderful children: Charles L. Hurst, Jr. (wife Andra) and Priscilla Griggs (husband James). His grandchildren-Chelsea Hurst (husband Connor Eaves), Allie Wallace, Fin Griggs, and Jordan Griggs-were his pride and joy, and he never missed an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments.

Charles is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Shula and James Hurst, who will forever cherish the memories of their brother's laughter, wisdom, and spirit.

Charles lived a life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the stories told around campfires, at family gatherings, and among his fellow servicemen. He was a true American patriot, a family man, and a friend to all. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

As we say goodbye to Charles, let us remember his love for life, his service to his country, and his unwavering dedication to those he loved. May his spirit live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.

Rest in peace, Charles Luke Hurst-may the heavens be filled with fast cars, good times, and endless adventures.
