Charles Edward Eddy

A memorial service to honor and celebrate the Life of Charles Eddy will be 2:00 pm Monday, December 17, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Collinsville. Charles passed away at his home in Mounds, OK on the afternoon of December 12, 2018, he was 74.

Charles was born at home on the family farm on Big Painter Ridge in West Virginia. He grew up loving the outdoors, farming, hunting, cars, and anything mechanical. Charles and his older brother David helped in building a new house on the farmstead in their teenage years that still stands today. As he neared graduation, his father encouraged him to get out and see the world, so in 1963, he joined the Army and trained as a helicopter mechanic. He was assigned to work the Bell Huey and then spent two tours in Vietnam maintaining and flying missions on the Huey. During this time, he was awarded 15 Air Medals for meritorious service while flying in combat missions. After returning from Vietnam, he attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa where he earned his Aircraft Airframe & Powerplant license, learned to fly and obtained his commercial pilots license. In 1968 he started work as an aircraft mechanic for American Airlines in Tulsa, working multiple aircraft lines, avionics maintenance and avionics inspection until his retirement in 2003. Not long after starting American, he was invited to church by friends where he first understood the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He met Juanita at Sheridan Baptist Church in Tulsa and after a short engagement they were married on June 30, 1972. They had three children - Stephen, Katie and Timothy. After getting married, Charles and Juanita purchased 5 acres west of Collinsville where he and his dad built a new home. In 1979 he purchased his first airplane and then rebuilt his second plane which he flew regularly until he was no longer able to fly. God and family were both very important to Charles. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville for over 40 years where he worshipped, served, and taught. He enjoyed camping around the U.S. with his family and being outdoors. He also loved the hills of West Virginia and would return there for a week every Thanksgiving to visit family and hunt. In retirement, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also turned to his love of woodworking where he enjoyed building all kinds of furniture for family and friends. In the end, he is remembered most for his love of God and the love and care he always had for his family and those around him.

Charles is survived by his loving wife Juanita; his children: Stephen and his wife Lisa, Katie and her husband Matt, Timothy and his wife Kimberly; his siblings: David Eddy, Mary Wince, and Paula Israel; his grandchildren: Kale, Jaxon, Makenna, Olivia and Charlotte along with other family members and friends.
