Carolyn” Kay” Churchwell was born in Tulsa, OK on January 24, 1940. She is the daughter of Charles and Nell Canady. She passed from this life on June 18th, 2013. Kay lived her entire life in Northeast Oklahoma. She graduated from Webster High School where she was well known and even televised for her pantomime routines. Kay worked in various fields until she took time off to raise her family. She began working at Ford Glass in 1979 and worked there until her retirement. Kay’s passion for horses began in her childhood. She was an avid barrel racer in her youth, a passion shared by her only granddaughter, Rebel Hester. Kay continued her love for animals by raising and showing dogs, then horses. She bred and raised several World Champion show horses. Later in life she began breeding and raising race horses. Kay and her husband, Harvey Churchwell, bred and raised many National Champion race horses. Kay loved watching football, basketball, and horseracing with her family and she could be easily riled with a disparaging remark against OU. Kay Churchwell is survived by her husband, Harvey Churchwell, of the home; daughter, Jay and Mike Hester of Inola, OK; son, David Basham of Morris, OK; step-daughter, LaDonna and Robert Corn of Morris, OK; step-son, Scott and Beth Churchwell of Florida; brother, Tom Canady of Tulsa and four grandchildren, Rebel Hester, Travis, Timothy, and Matthew Corn. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013 at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee with Reverend Raymond Doke officiating. “She never moved the stars from their courses, But she loved a good man and she rode good horses.”
