Carolyn Glennis Morris

Carolyn Glennis Bean, age 96 of Okmulgee County, Oklahoma was born July 26, 1926 in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, to Robert Bruce Bean III and Opal Gertrude Wright. Carolyn passed away quietly at her home of over 70 years, early January 6th. She was a twin sister to Marilyn Glenna Bean (Allen) who preceded her in death on April 11, 1987 at the age of 60 in Yuba City, California. There were five sisters in the family, the other three were Edna Louise Bean (Cox) born August 30, 1921 and passed away in Chesterfield, Missouri on April 1, 1974 at the age of 52. Doris Gwendolyn Bean (Jones) was born December 16,1924 and passed away July 23, 2017 at the age of 92 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The youngest sister, Ruth Alyce Bean (Fay) born October 18, 1931 and passed away June 13, 2022 at the age of 90 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Carolyn grew up in Cherokee County and went through school and graduated at Bagley High, now known as Bagley Hall or NSU Seminary Hall along with her twin sister who was able to graduate a year earlier than her. She always said her twin sister, Marilyn, got all the brain cells when they were born.

Carolyn was a direct descendant of Gu-lu-sti-yu, an Eastern Cherokee of the Long Hair Clan, meaning Clan of Beautiful Women. Gu-lu-sti-yu was born in 1766 and died on April 27th 1818. Her father was Chief Doublehead. Carolyn followed that Clan's traits and was named Rodeo Queen of Cherokee County when she was a teenager.

Carolyn Bean met the love of her life while she was working for the War Department at Camp Gruber, located in Eastern Muskogee and Southwestern Cherokee County. This camp was one of eighty-four camps that the War Department built prior to and at the beginning of WWII. Kernan Morris had enlisted in the US Navy after graduating from Northeastern College in Tahlequah and fought on the warship USS Mansfield against the Germans in the Atlantic and the Japanese in the Pacific. While he was mustering out of the US Navy at Camp Gruber, he caught eye to a beautiful red head teenager named Carolyn. Right there in the military column, he asked her for a date. She accepted, and they were married on August 12, 1947 in Monett, Missouri.

After her children grew up and left home, she went to work for the United States Postal Service. She served as a Rural letter carrier for the Okmulgee Post Office and later transferred to the Morris Post Office and delivered mail over many rural roads in the county. She made it a career and finally retired from the Postal Service in her mid-Sixties.

They remained married for the next 64 years until Kernan Dale (KD) Morris passed away April 18, 2012 in a hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They had two children who still survive, Bobbie Dill and her husband Mike of Morris, Oklahoma and Chuck Morris of Okmulgee Oklahoma.

The next generations of survivors include: Two Grandchildren Dennis Nunley and wife Shanna (Mudd), and Angela Ryals (Nunley). Seven Great Grandchildren Braley (Sweeney) and husband Donny Warlick, Wyatt Ryals, Janae (Nunley) and husband Ralph Bagby, Jacee Nunley, Jaelyn Nunley, Jabree Nunley, and Jayanna Nunley. Four Great-Great Grandchildren Owen Warlick, Laken Warlick, Averie Bagby, and Aden Bagby.

Carolyn also had 7 nieces and 13 nephews. Pallbearers will be Joe Morris, Jack Morris, JBerry Morris, Ken Bennett, Donny Warlick, and Kaynen Powell.

Honorary Pallbearers are David Porter and Leslie Morris. Extended family are Dale Sr., Billie, Dr. Dale, Debby Brannon, and Rae Ann Warner.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday January 11, 2023 at First United Methodist Church-Morris, 601 S Hughes Ave, Morris, Oklahoma, with Reverend Anna George officiating with a graveside service to follow at the Morris Cemetery.
