Carolyn Ann Mareburger

September 24, 1941 — August 22, 2014

Carolyn Ann Mareburger was called home peacefully on Friday, August 22, 2014 surrounded by family at home in Tulsa, OK at the age of 72, following a nearly three decade long battle with cancer. A loving wife, mother, and devoted follower of Jesus Christ, Carolyn was known to all who came in contact with her as a woman of contentment who trusted in the sufficiency of God’s grace.
Carolyn McDaniel was born September 24, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to Kenneth F. and Charlotte B. McDaniel. Raised many years by her grandmother Carlee McDaniel, Carolyn lived in Memphis, TN and Oklahoma City, OK before graduating in 1959 from Central High School in Tulsa, OK where she resided for the rest of her life. That same year she married the love of her life, Robert Arlin Mareburger of Tulsa, and remained married until his death in 1991. An excellent student, she attended the University of Tulsa before deciding to stay home and focus on her new young family. She eventually pursued a career that allowed her to use her amazing talent for both creating and teaching others how to create and market arts and crafts. Carolyn loved to read, listen to music, watch sporting events, visit with family and friends and brighten a day with her clever humor, and pursue her passion for arts and crafts culminating in a love for knitting and quilting where she ministered by creating items that inspired others to persevere and give thanks. She attended Heritage Bible Church and loved her Christian family that reached far beyond local church boundaries.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Arlin and her parents. She is survived by her son Bob and wife Diane and grandsons Jack and Drew of Tulsa; son Steve and grandchildren Matt and Marci of Tulsa; daughter Julie Smith and husband Vance and grandchildren Amanda, Jacob, Eli, and Annie and great grandson Cole of Coweta, OK; son Bill and wife Susan of Dallas, TX; sisters Charlene Hogan and husband Daniel of Tulsa; Nancy McGarrah and husband Jim of Norcross, GA; nieces Mindy McGarrah Sharp and husband Tommy and their children James Henry and Lucy Claire of Tulsa; Elizabeth Hathcock and husband Seth and their children Owen and Morgan of Norcross, GA; and Heidi Aspinwall of Miami, FL.
A celebration of a life well-lived honoring a Proverbs 31 woman will take place at the Mason Chapel of Asbury United Methodist Church on Friday, August 29, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. under the direction of Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service.

Proverbs 31
A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
