Carole Ruth DeBaecke Broadland, 84, died the morning of June 21, 2018 at her home in Tulsa. She was born on Christmas Day of 1933 at the Lakenau Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Jules John DeBaecke and Ruth Walker DeBaecke. She lived and attended school in the small town of Lansdowne, a suburb of Philadelphia. After graduating from high school, she attended Drexel University for 2 years. While working as a hostess at a USO club in Philadelphia, she met the love of her life; a submarine sailor from Texas named Don Broadland. They were married in 1954 and were soon blessed with a son Richard (Dick) and three daughters, Janice (Jan), Allison, and Sandy.
Shortly after they were married, Don was discharged from the Navy; Carole and Don moved to Texas so Don could begin his education at the University of Texas. In 1965 the family moved to Tulsa where they have lived ever since. After their children were raised, Carole and Don enjoyed traveling to many places throughout the world. Fun extended family vacations were spent at the seashore in Avalon NJ, and the Cayman Islands.
Carole was an accomplished seamstress, loved to garden and enjoyed the outdoors. She was always interested in other people and was one of the best listeners the world has ever known. She had a pleasant nature, sweet spirit and a kind heart. Carole volunteered her time at numerous organizations throughout her life: Neighbor for Neighbor, DVIS, SPCA, and Hospice of Green Country to name a few. Carole was a caring person, a loving, devoted wife and the best mom her 4 kids could have ever imagined.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Don, her son-in-law, Jay Anthony Olsen, and her grandson Jett DeBaecke Olsen.
Carole leaves many loving memories with her family, Dick Broadland (Son) and wife Laurie of Tulsa, Jan Olsen (Daughter) of Powell, Wyoming, Allison Warren (Daughter) and husband HB of Palm City, Florida, Sandy Hamer (Daughter) and husband Craig of Plano, Texas, Jules DeBaecke Jr. (Brother) and wife Maggie of Media, Pennsylvania, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, her little dog, Magoo, as well as many other loving family members and a host of friends.
Her family would like to give special thanks to some very special people in her life, her primary caregivers, Brenda Moore and Jerri Driver, and her wonderful friends Dolores and Robert Taylor and Martha and Dick Nichols. You all are proof that saints on earth really do exist.
Private family services will be held. Memorials in Carole’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
