Robert Edward Wilson

August 29, 1926 — September 5, 2024

Robert (Bob) Edward Wilson, 98, Of Tulsa Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his home on September 5, 2024. He was born August 29, 1926 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the first son of Harry and Vera (Stockham) Wilson. From childhood, Bob showed great interest in music, playing trumpet and listening to big band on the radio. After serving in Furth, Germany as part of the Army Air Forces during World War II, he attended Bethany College in Lindborg Kansas and became a high school Band Director. He married Iris (67 years ago) on September 22, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church near Hope Kansas. He worked as a salesman at Calavan’s Music Store in Wichita, Kansas, Jenkin’s and Larsen’s Music Store in Oklahoma.

Bob’s love of music was also evident in the bands he was a part of, including dance bands in his younger years, Oklahoma City Symphonic Band after retirement and band direction and score development for the Messiah Lutheran Church Band.

He loved to fish and told stories of fishing with his parents growing up. Bob fished with Iris while wooing her and with children, siblings and grandchildren throughout his life. He especially enjoyed trips to Minnesota and the Gulf of Mexico.

Bob loved dogs and they loved him. He had one on his lap for a significant portion of his life. We heard stories of how his childhood dog saved him from falling into the creek. His dogs were often rewarded with ice cream.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Harry and Vera Wilson and brother Richard Wilson (and wife Gerri). Survivors include his loving wife Iris, daughter, Lisa McDonald (and husband Dave) and son Alan Wilson (and wife Bridget), sister Shirley McGinnis (and husband JB) and many (12) grandchildren and great grandchildren (10), who loved him dearly. Also, numerous extended family members and friends.

Many thanks to Seasons Hospice, Tammy and Linda who brought joy and comfort to him in his final days.

Robert wished to be cremated. His memorial service will be held at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church at 2550 E. 71st Street on September 27 at 11 AM. Family will greet friends an hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany College Lindsborg, Kansas.
