Billy Webster Chalakee

September 20, 1937 — July 2, 2014

Billy W. Chalakee, who was born and raised in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the age of 76. He was born September 20, 1937 to Webster and Martha (Bird) Chalakee in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He graduated in 1956 from Wilson High School. He was the Wilson Tigers biggest sport fan and had his own personal seat at the basketball games. He graduated from Haskell College with an Associate Degree in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army in the 1st Calvary Division. Billy was employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs for many years and he retired from there in 1995. While living for a longtime in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he coached baseball at Mile High Little League, coached football with the Young American Football League, was a leader for the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and a Junior Wrestling Coach at Manzano and Sandia. In 1995, Billy and his wife, Amelia returned to Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He was a former council member for Creek Nation for 2 years. He was very active in civic activities and was a judge at the Challenge Bowl. Billy was a devoted member of the Honeycreek Methodist Church in Okmulgee and loved cooking for the church, especially his famous Pecan Pies. He was an active runner and walker and participated in Walk-A-Thons and 5K Races. He acted in two Creek language plays and was a passionate and great dancer. He had a great sense of humor, loved animals and was a lifelong sports fan. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the children. Billy was loved and well respected by many who knew him and he will be greatly missed by everyone. He is preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Chalakee; baby sister, Mary Jane Chalakee; grandparents, Thomas and Mulsie Chalakee; parents, Webster and Martha Bird Chalakee; brothers, Tom Mix Chalakee and William (Bunky) Chalakee; daughter, Jodi Brown and son, Kirk Profitt. Survivors include his children, Roy M. Profitt of Texas, Mollie A. Profitt of New Mexico, Jeffrey T. Truelove-Chalakee of New Mexico and Billy W. Chalakee, Jr. of Arizona; seven sisters, Barbara Davis of Virginia, Thelma Harjo of New Mexico, Virginia Kolakowski of Tulsa, Stella Harjo of Tulsa, Margie Chalakee of Okmulgee, Sharon Chalakee and husband, Ray Harjo of Okmulgee and Donna Bear of Okmulgee; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other family members. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014 and the Wake Service will be held that evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Okmulgee. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Honeycreek Methodist Church in Okmulgee with Reverend Jerry Baker officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Salt Creek Cemetery in Wilson under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Aaron Truelove-Chalakee, Donald Profitt Be’ans, Rayne Harjo, Kelly Harjo, Billy Kolakowski and Jonah Fleener. Honorary Pallbearers will be Cody Chalakee, Nathan Chalakee Barnett, Ryan Harjo, Abraham Fernandez, Jose Fernandez, Antony Profitt and Roy M. Profitt IV. Military Honors will be conducted by the Muscogee Creek Nation Honor Guard.
