Billy Joe Wilburn passed away May 4, 2015 in Firestone, Colorado. He was born November 20, 1949 in Bristow to George Curtis and Helen Imogene (Wilkerson) Wilburn. He graduated from Buford High School in Buford, South Carolina in 1979. Mr. Wilburn pursued a 20-year successful career in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a warehouseman, weapons specialist, and retired as a gunnery sergeant. Billy Joe was known to be a great marksman, winning numerous competitions throughout his military career. He was honorably discharged in September of 1988.

Following his military career, Mr. Wilburn worked in maintenance, drove a van transporting prisoners, and he was also employed in various capacities as an ironworker. He loved fishing, both in the deep sea as well as local rivers and ponds. He absolutely loved to watch movies. In fact, he had over 5,000 films in his collection. Shirley Temple was his favorite actress.

Billy was preceded in death by his father George Curtis Wilburn and his brother Barry Roger Wilburn. He is survived by his wife Susan Wilburn; his mother Helen Imogene Crittenden; his brother Curtis Wayne Wilburn (Sherrie); his son Clifton Ray Wilburn (Jammie); his daughter Joline Marie Pigeon (Billie) and their children Cherokee and Zachary; and his daughter Billie Jo Charline Denise Davenport (Buddy) and their children Devin and Luna.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Schaudt-Teel Funeral Service & Cremation Care in Tulsa. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 10 AM Saturday, May 16, at the Truth Baptist Church in Sand Springs. Share memories of Billie Joe at www.tulsafuneral.com.
