Bill Hunt, age 94 of Owasso, OK (formerly Readington, NJ) died April 26, 2016 at Clarehouse Hospice Care in Tulsa, OK. Born and raised in Raritan, NJ, he was the son of the late William F. and Josephine Hunt.
Bill was a graduate of St. Joseph’s School in Raritan, NJ and Somerville High School in Somerville, NJ. He attended East Stroudsburg University earning a teaching certification. He led an adventurous life as a mechanic, truck driver, flight instructor, WWII pilot, commercial airline pilot, one room school house teacher, realtor and rancher. He built his own home in Readington, NJ which he shared with his wife of 54 years, Sylvia Hunt (Talamini), who passed away in 2008. As an instructor at Solberg Airport in Readington, he taught many fledgling pilots including his sons. His flying skills were featured in a 1947 National Geographic article and could be seen in the movies: Dog Day Afternoon, San Francisco International Airport, and again in Earthquake. Though Bill met many celebrities throughout his long flying career, he remained his humorous, humble self.
Bill is survived by his three sons, William F. Hunt III and wife Susan of Paupack, PA; Bradford Hunt of Readington, NJ; Thomas Hunt and wife Joan DiMatteo Hunt of Owasso, OK and his grandchildren: Jessica Hunt, William F. Hunt IV & wife Colleen, Teresa Hunt, and Christina Hunt. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Hunt of Melbourne, FL, and several nieces and nephews. His parents, sisters, Agnes and Theresa, and a brother, Francis, predeceased him.
Visitation will be held from 1:00pm-8:00pm Monday May 2, 2016 at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service Chapel. No local service planned.
Entombment will be at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Bridgewater.
