Betty Louise Kelough

Betty Louise Castleberry Kelough, a resident of Okmulgee, went to Heaven on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the age of 80. She was born on November 28, 1932 to Lester Duncan and Alma Gertrude (Kitchen) Castleberry in Hitchita, Oklahoma. She was the sixth child of six. Betty married Arthur Melvin Kelough on May 27, 1948 at the Pentecostal Church in Checotah. Four Children were born to this couple, William Jarrett Kelough, Valorie Jean Kelough Kennedy, Melvin Michael Kelough and Roger Dale Kelough. Her children and spouse blessed her with seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Betty and Melvin raised their children in the Assembly of God Church in Hitchita until they moved to Okmulgee and joined the First Assembly of God Church where she taught Sunday School for 18 years. They moved to Crosstown Pentecostal Church, where she worked with 4th and 5th grade Royal Rangers and helped them learn to tie square knots to earn their badges. She was member of the Red Hat Club at Crosstown. She started to work outside of the home at the Henryetta hospital as a nurses aid then moved to Henryetta Clinic where she helped take care of five generations. After the death of Dr. Smith, she started to work at the Okmulgee Pediatric Clinic. She retired after 12 ½ years and a total of 33 ½ years in the medical field. At that time she became a full time care taker of her ill husband. She was always making quilts and giving them away. She provided a home for several homeless people over the years. She loved to cook for people and one of her specialties was coconut cream pies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester Duncan and Alma Gertrude Castleberry; husband, Melvin Kelough; sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Bob Leuellen; brother Charles Castleberry; nephew, David Carson; son-in-law, Danny Kennedy and a great granddaughter. Survivors include three sons, William Jarrett Kelough and wife, Janet of Yukon, Michael Kelough and wife, Nelda and Roger Dale Kelough, all of Okmulgee; one daughter, Valorie Kennedy of Wilson; grandchildren, Kim and Jason Soweka, Renea and Derrick Lehmkuhl, all of Wilson; Tracy and Gary Ray of Durant; Joe and Melissa Kelough of Ada; Roger and Chasidy Kelough of Glenpool; Daniel and Christinia Kelough of Owasso and Erich Kelough of Okmulgee; fourteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; three sisters, Vanita Self of Pickett; Cora Davis of Boynton and Dora May Kaler of Hitchita; one sister-in-law, Loretta Dunagan of Checotah and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at the Dewar First Baptist Church with Brother Jack Vance officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Lackey Cemetery in Hitchita under the direction of the Jackson Funeral Home and Crematory in Okmulgee. Pallbearers will be Derrick Lehmkuhl, Jason Soweka, Joe Kelough, Gary Ray, Roger Kelough, Daniel Kelough, Erich Kelough and M.J. El-far. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alvin Potts, Eddie Hahne, Buddy Inge and Oval Ward. Visitation will be held Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Jackson Funeral Home in Okmulgee. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gideon’s Bibles, Po Box 125 Okmulgee, Ok 74447.
