Betty Lou Davis

October 23, 1928 — February 7, 2020

Betty Lou Davis, peacefully passed away February 7, 2020 at the age of 91. Betty was born in Longworth, TX on October 23, 1928, to Bob and Myrtle Wells. Betty grew up moving around Texas and Kansas as her Dad was a roustabout working for Sinclair Oil. Betty spent her high school-days in St. Jo Texas where she was a cheerleader and a member of the Pep Squad. She also worked in the town drugstore after school where she met the love of her life, Denzel. She didn’t like him much at first, but he persisted, and they fell in love. Betty and Denzel eloped September 1, 1946, to Amarillo TX over the Labor Day weekend because Denzel couldn’t take time off of work. They remained lovingly married for 58 years until Feb. 13, 2005, when Denzel passed away.

Betty is survived by her brothers, Norman and wife Juanita Wells of Euless TX and Edward and Betty Jo Wells of Edmond OK. Betty is preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Mildred Jenkins.

Betty and Denzel lived in many cities, starting in Plainview TX and then moving to Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, and finally landing in Oklahoma. Living in Tulsa from 1962 until 1985, Betty and Denzel attended Park Plaza Church of Christ where they made many life-long friends. In 1985, they bought a beautiful lake house on Grand Lake to retire. It was a wonderful, special place to go for their friends, kids and grandkids all summer long and especially at holidays. So many games of spoons and charades were played along with boating, skiing and eating Betty’s brisket on the back patio overlooking the lake. After Denzel passed, Betty moved back to Tulsa to be close to her kids and grandkids.

Betty and Denzel had three children; Larry Davis and wife Jovita, Cindy Davis Colvin, and Jeff Davis and wife Karen, all from Tulsa OK. Lovingly known as “Mim” by everyone, Betty had five grandchildren; Jason Colvin and wife Cathy of Norman, Amy Calmus and husband Richie of Jenks, Abbey Engles and husband Nate of Bixby, Kelsey Jackson and husband Brett of Dallas and Trent Davis of Cooperstown NY. She also had nine great-grandchildren; Gunnar, Quinn and Ava Colvin of Norman, Jett, Brecken and Colt Calmus of Jenks, and Noah, Blaire and Tatum Engles of Bixby.

Mim will be dearly missed but it was her time to be with Denzel again.

The family would like to especially thank Grace Hospice and their staff for being so attentive and caring during her final days. A private family memorial will be held at a later date in which she will be placed next to Denzel in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or The Little Light House.
