Betty Jean Winters

August 19, 1924 — November 14, 2018

A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Betty Jean Winters will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at Highland Park Christian Church in Tulsa.

Betty Jean (Hardcastle) Winters, 94, loving mother and elegant grandmother, and friend to all she met, died November 14, 2018. Betty was born in Dustin, Ok. and grew up in Wetumka, Ok. She lived her adult life in Tulsa and was proceeded in death by her soulmate, Donald B. Winters, whom she had married at age 18. She was also predeceased by her very good parents, Roscoe and Mettie Hardcastle, wonderful siblings Virgle, Helen and Velma, and her son-in-law whom she always thought of as her own son, Ronald Meeker. Beloved family she leaves includes her daughter and best friend, Dianna Jean Meeker, and granddaughters Jennifer Kneafsey and her husband Mike, and Susan Buck and her husband Kevan. Betty was also a significant blessing to her great grandchildren Lilly Kneafsey (13) and Spencer Buck (2), and many special nieces and nephews.

Betty was always the ‘fun mom’ growing up, helping organize a sock hop for Dianna’s friends, and serving as a homeroom mother and in the Berryhill PTA. She worked as a floral arranger at TG&Y and created amazing Easter baskets for the store – and decades later, for her granddaughters. She also worked at Gunn Brothers and JCPenney, but everyone teased she sometimes owed the stores more than she earned due to her love of shopping! Betty and Don enjoyed building several cabins by hand at Grand Lake, spending significant time there and traveling the US in their motorhome. When Don passed in 1997, Betty committed herself to volunteer work at the Tulsa Airport as an Ambassador and served in many volunteer roles at her long-time church home, Highland Park Christian Church. She took great pride in living independently in her home and frequently redecorated to keep her home modern and beautiful. To visit her during the holidays was a treat – to enjoy her delicious home-made meals, festive décor, and custom-wrapped gifts. An avid mall walker until the last few years, Betty always knew the latest fashion trends and where you could find the best deals by window shopping 5-days a week! When she shared any stories about family, ‘Such happy times we had!’ she would exclaim whole-heartedly. Baptized at the age of nine and always a woman of deep faith, she anticipated being reunited with Don in heaven and asked us to celebrate her life, rather than mourn her passing.

The family wishes to thank nurses Jill and Jennifer and the Grace Hospice team for their loving care provided to Betty.
