Bertha Elvina Leeper
Bertha Elvina Leeper, age 58, of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Bertha was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on September 17, 1958, to Reta Jean (Wesley) Davis and the late John W. King. She moved with her family at the age of four years old to Bell Garden, California. She loved to make people feel good about themselves so, attending beauty school in San Francisco, California, and becoming a hair stylist was a natural fit. When Bertha moved with her husband Dennis and daughter to Cottonwood, Arizona, she went to work for Wal-Mart. While living in Arizona, she loved to take her grandkids mining up in the mountains. When she moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, she continued her employment with Wal-Mart in the clothing department and also worked at a grocery store in Okemah, Oklahoma. She had customers who would stand in her line, just to hear her announce the specials of the week. There were so many things she loved and enjoyed; pine coning, kayaking, hiking, rock hunting, and camp outs. Bertha would house sit for her dear friend, in exchange for, the opportunity to fish for salmon on her home near the river. She lit up the room, wherever she went, and was known to be loud, obnoxious, and someone with a very big heart, as her sister recounted. Bertha loved being with her mom, running around town together, helping keep her electronics up to date, and announcing that she was ready to lounge and watch movies.
She is preceded in death by her father; John W. King, siblings; Doncella Sakiestewa, John K. King, David W. King, grandmother; Thelma Winlock.
Bertha is survived by her mother; Reta Davis, daughter; Lola Mae Losh, grandchildren; Raven and Damiem Morrison, sister; Helen Jimenez, husband; Dennis Leeper, along with a host of loving aunties, uncles, cousins, and friends.
