Bernadine Ann Dowdy

Bernadine Ann Dowdy, 69, of Bixby, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

Bernadine was born on October 26, 1953 to Caroline Jones in Tahlihina, OK. Bernadine was raised with her mother, grandmother and eventually went to the Goodland Presbyterian Indian School. From there she graduated from Hugo High School. After graduation, she attended OSU Tech in Okmulgee, later attending Rose State College and Southern Methodist University.

She started her ministerial journey in 1997 with the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. She served part-time for six years, became full-time and then an ordained Elder in Full Connection in 2008. She served twenty years as a pastor with OIMC and was on incapacity leave for 5 years before retiring in 2022.

Bernadine was well known throughout the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference. She loved the people and was loved by the people. She loved to preach. She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her smile was so stunning it would light up the whole room. She was kind and passionate with her calling. She lived her life to the fullest, even in the time of her sickness. No matter what, she trusted her Creator to take care of her!

She is survived by her son, Jeremy Dowdy, of the home, four grandchildren, Taelor, Marrisa, Trey and Isabelle and one sister Adalaide Wessinger and her husband Donnie, of Paris, Texas.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her son Mac, her mother and grandmother.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023 from 5:00pm-8:00pm and funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Thursday, May 11, 2023 both at Schaudt-Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service, 1329 East 151st St. Glenpool, Oklahoma 74033.
