On September 17, 2018 Barbara Kalbfleisch Nonweiler passed away peacefully in Tulsa, OK after a ten year battle with dementia culminating with a stroke.
Barbara was the only daughter of Herbert and Etta Kalbfleisch and was born on April 4, 1933.
She was raised in Saint Louis, MO and attended Washington University in St. Louis where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in education in 1955. She met the love of her life, Ed Nonweiler in German class at Washington University, starting a whirlwind courtship of six years. They married on June 12, 1957 and moved to Houston. The couple moved to Tulsa, OK in 1962 after Ed completed his medical education.
One of Barbara's amazing attributes was her love for children so she easily transitioned into teaching kindergarten. She taught four years before beginning a family.
After children were born, Barbara relinquished her teaching career to be a stay-at-home mom to raise two boys. A challenge that she carried out with excellence. Among many outside activities were volunteering at the library at Holland Hall, serving as a chairman of the Holland Hall Book and Art Fair and being President of Tulsa Country Medical Auxiliary. In addition to other volunteer organizations, she also served as a cub scout leader and a vacation bible school teacher.
Barbara will best be remembered by her unselfish devotion to her family. If she were still here she would remind us to "Give your kids a hug". As an avid tennis player, she was known as having a fierce forehand but a mediocre backhand and enjoyed playing at Phillcrest Hills Tennis Club. She remained interested in health and participated in Pilates twice a week until two days before her stroke.
Survivors include her loving husband of 61 years, Edward Nonweiler; son, David Nonweiler and his wife Tracy of Tulsa and their children, Jake of San Francisco, Dalton of San Francisco and Sophie of New York City; son, Blake Nonweiler and his wife, Jen of Bend, OR and their children, Jackie of Bend, OR, Scott of Walla Walla, WA, Ryan of Flagstaff, AZ and Jackson of Bend, OR.
