Arthur Doyle Sharpe was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 23, 1949 and passed from this life March 6, 2024 at the age of 74. Art grew up and attended school in Bucks County, PA. In his late teens, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as an airplane mechanic during the Vietnam war and then Dyess Airbase in Abilene, TX, where he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. He attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa. Staying in Tulsa, he worked as a mechanic for auto dealerships ending at Metro Motors Volvo. In 1985, he opened Art's Garage at 15th and Delaware, working exclusively on Volvos. He moved to a newly remodeled, larger shop at 15th and Evanston in 2002 where he operated until his retirement in 2019. He was an excellent mechanic and very creative, often machining parts that were no longer available.
Art married Cathy Buchanan in 1986 and they were blessed with their two children, Samantha and Steven. Art loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings and activities. He loved to attend school and sporting activities including Samantha's ballet recitals, Samantha and Steven's swim meets, and Steven's Scouting activities and cycling races. He was so proud of his granddaughters, the lights of his life, Annie and Caroline, and spent as much time with them as he could. Though Art and Cathy's marriage ended after 27 years, they were able to become good friends in the last several years.
Art loved to travel and was happiest at the beach in Florida with his family. In his younger years, he loved to ski and road trip around the country on his motorcycle with friends, and also enjoyed traveling to Thailand, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and France. His favorite hobby was working on and flying remote controlled helicopters. He also loved photography and watching Formula One racing, and was able to attend a race at the Indianapolis Speedway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Rosemary Sharpe, and is survived by his daughter Samantha Wood and husband Brady of Bixby, son Steven Sharpe of Tulsa, brother Richard Sharpe of Alpine, Tx, and precious granddaughters Caroline and Annie Wood. Art will be laid to rest in the National Military Cemetery at Fort Gibson, OK.
