Anthony Michael "Mike" O'Leary peacefully passed away in his sleep on December 4, 2022, at 68 years old. Mike was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents William Thomas O'Leary and Almerta "Pearl" McNew O'Leary on August 15, 1954. Tulsa was his home for the entirety of his life where he shares many wonderful moments and memories with his family.
Mike's entrepreneurial spirit was evident from an early age, where he built several different businesses over the course of his career, from pay phones to real estate. Mike had an incredible work ethic and was always busy working on one project or another, usually several at one time, and often on a project to help one of his friends or family members. Mike never met a stranger and invested significant time and effort helping and uplifting others in whatever way he could.
As hard as he worked, Mike also loved a good time. He enjoyed weekends at the lake, fishing on his pontoon boat, grilling out, and watching OU football. One of the highlights of his weekend was attending Life Church on Sundays. He could not bear to be late as he did not want to miss a minute of praise and worship. When he was especially moved by the music, he could be observed slapping his thigh and exclaiming a resounding, "Rock me!" Mike's sense of adventure led him on various travels, usually involving the beach or the mountains. His family also knew that they would never return from a vacation on the day they originally planned, as he never wanted the fun to stop and routinely extended vacations.
As much as he loved to vacation, home was where Mike's heart was. He was the quintessential family man and everything he did was in service to his family to give them the kind of life he wanted them to have. At home, Mike typically donned his trademark "uniform" of a plaid flannel shirt and sweats. Due to his upbringing as a child of a parent who had survived the Great Depression, Mike had an endless supply of creative frugal ideas that he liked to implement around the house. He was a pro at washing and reusing Ziplock bags and putting his cast iron stomach to good use by personally consuming all of the oldest leftovers in the refrigerator. Mike loved all things spicy, the hotter the better. At every meal, Mike could be observed sweating bullets with the hottest pepper he could find in one hand and a fork in the other.
Please join us in honoring Mike today by singing along to a song, casting a line, nibbling on a hot pepper, or helping out a friend or loved one.
Mike is preceded in death by both of his parents, William and Pearl O'Leary.
Mike is survived by his wife, Judi; children, Shannon and son-in-law Junior, Justin and daughter-in-law Brittany; nieces, Jamie and Adrienne and husband Aaron; grandchildren, Mia, Osa, and Theo; and siblings, James and wife Sandra, and Kathy.
