Anna Loraine Shire

March 27, 1926 — March 23, 2015

Anna Bibb Shire passed into the loving arms of her Lord suddenly on Monday, March 23, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 88.

Anna has lived in the Glenpool, Oklahoma area since 1976 and was a resident of the Redbud Village Community for the last seven years. She was born on March 27, 1926 in Watchorn, Oklahoma to her parents, Van and Lillian Kinnick. Anna grew up in the Stigler, Oklahoma area and moved to San Francisco, California in 1944 at age 18. She worked as a Civil Service Clerk at the naval shipyard where she met and married a handsome marine from Oklahoma, Leonard Bibb. Anna loved a ”man in uniform” so Leonard became a police officer in Oakland, California after being discharged from his military duty.

Anna and Leonard lived in Berkeley, California with their four children until 1954 when they moved back to Oklahoma. They lost their son Larry in 1957 and gained their son Gary in 1958.
Anna, Leonard and family lived in Beggs from 1959 until 1966. After living near Ft. Gibson Lake for several years, they returned to the Glenpool area where Leonard passed away in 2003.
Anna had a great work ethic and held a variety of positions, the last being with the Glenpool Public Schools as a custodian where she retired at age 67. Anna was known for her easy going style, great sense of humor and compassion for others. She was kind, friendly, helpful and extremely generous. She had a great love of life and was a truly beautiful person. She loved to sew, cook and painted beautiful pictures of birds starting at age 82. She deeply loved God, her family and all her sweet friends at Redbud Village. One of the highlights of her life for the last couple of years was her constant companion, Chico, her dog.

Anna is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Mike Calvert of Glenpool, Oklahoma and Pat and Tim Smith of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughters-in-law Susan Cody of Killeen, Texas and Beverly Witt of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
