Anna E. “Dot” Rumsey, born October 24, 1905, to Marshall and Della Binns in Cherokee City, Arkansas. “Dot” went to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the age of 106. She married Orace Rumsey of Hanna, Oklahoma, in Wagoner, Oklahoma on June 25, 1928. They lived in and around Hanna until her husband passed away on May 22, 1979. Mrs. Rumsey taught school for 43 years. Fifteen of those years she and Mr. Rumsey taught together. He then volunteered for World War II. Mrs. Rumsey retired in 1971. She was selected as the “Teacher of the Year” in 1961 in McIntosh County, on the basis of outstanding skills in Teaching, Dedication and Professional Interest. During Mrs. Rumsey’s years of teaching, she was a 4-H Club Coach for 27 years and received the Diamond Service Pin from the State of Oklahoma. She was also 7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball Coach for 15 years at Rhyne School and a softball coach at Hanna. In tribute and honor for Mrs. Rumsey’s many efforts and dedication, the Senior Class of Hanna High School in 1983, dedicated their year book to Mrs. Rumsey. Mrs. Rumsey was a member of the Eastern Star of Eufaula and also an active member of Rural Carries Aux. She served 25 years as the Treasurer of the First Baptist Church of Hanna, Oklahoma, before moving to Broken Arrow, in 1985. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church at the time of her death. Mrs. Rumsey is preceded in death by three brothers. She will be loved and remembered by loved ones and many close friends. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2012 at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta with Reverend John Basden and Pastor Randy Schaddox officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Eufaula, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Roger Smith, Rodney Helms, Dewayne Helms, Dylan Helms, Jerry Hale, Roger Burns and George Mouser. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Shurden-Jackson Funeral Home in Henryetta.
