Albert Lee Laughlin, faithful servant of God, passed peacefully on October 7,
surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 20, 1938, in the middle of a massive
snowstorm in Shattuck, Oklahoma to Raymond and Laura Laughlin.
Albert is survived by his lovely bride of 59 years, Juanita Brown Laughlin of Shawnee,
OK; Children: Sheila Sala and Husband Mike of Shawnee, OK; Kelly Laughlin US Army
Colonel Retired and wife Miche of Shawnee, OK; Melanie Laughlin of Shawnee, OK
and fiancé Chris Waller. Grandchildren: Justine Lobue and husband Lane, Clifton
Laughlin and fiancé Shaye, Summer Johnson, Ashli Johnson, Stephanie Hill and Jack,
Brandon Sala and wife Alyssa. Great grandchildren: Holden and Rylee Lobue, Zayden,
Maria and Gracelynn Sala; Ryan and Cale Hill. Brothers: Doug Laughlin and Mark
Laughlin, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.
Albert was saved and baptized during a revival in Shattuck, OK, when he was 10 years
old. Albert was a God loving man that showed through his character of grace, love,
faith, and generosity throughout his life. He instilled his Christian beliefs in his children,
grandchildren, students, neighbors and community.
Albert graduated from Meeker High School in 1956 with honors in academics, sports
and FFA. Albert enlisted in the United States Army in 1960. He completed basic
training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, followed by Army Security Agency training in which
he specialized in Morse Code interception at Fort Devens, MA. He was then stationed in
Castle, Germany where he witnessed the building of the Berlin Wall. He received rifle
marksmanship for his exemplary skills and a good conduct medal.
Albert returned to Meeker in 1963 and married the love of his life and soulmate, Juanita.
They both worked at Western Electric before pursuing Albert’s dream of becoming a
dairy farmer. They raised their children in Meeker before moving their family and farm
to Dale area. Besides farming, Albert drove a school bus for Dale public schools and
coached all 3 of his children in either softball, baseball, basketball and/or wrestling.
After Albert retired from dairy farming at the age of 50, he continued to haul hay into his
60’s.
Albert also spent countless hours at Liberty Academy running the after-school program,
concession stand, assisting with basketball tournaments and the accelerated reading
program with Juanita for the elementary students. You could always find Albert scooting
around Liberty in his electric wheelchair or working on a puzzle in his spare time. He
touched and blessed so many lives during his time at Liberty.
He was an avid Sooners and Yankee fan. He had a passion for gardening and loved
growing roses for his wife. He spent countless hours tending to his flower and
vegetable garden, and shared his wealth of garden knowledge to family, friends, nursing
home staff and anyone who wanted to learn.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Laura Laughlin and 2 brothers
C.W. Laughlin and Ray Earl Laughlin.
We would like to thank all of those who have prayed and given support for our family
during our loss.
Memorial service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church, Thursday, October 13 at 2
pm Bro. Phil Thompson and Bro. Bill Leveridge will be officiating.
