John Allen Brady passed away on June 1, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on July 31, 1942.
Allen’s father, Fred, was an engineer for Williams Pipeline; a job which required constant travel during the majority of his youth. The family, including his mother, Evelyn, traveled to various cities and Indian Reservations in the United States as well as South America. The experience shaped Allen’s independent, strong-willed and adventurous spirit. Home base was always Tulsa, OK. He graduated from Edison High School and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University. After college, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Army Reserves, Allen’s career began in the oil and gas business. After a few years in the corporate world, he followed his passion of cars and racing as a salesman for high-end race vehicles including Lotus and Lamborghini. Following his inventive nature, in 1975, Allen and wife Dava opened Black Powder Arms, later called BPA Sporting Goods. They ran the successful hunting and fishing supply business together for 13 years.
Allen’s zeal for cars and motorcycles began at an early age. He built race cars from the ground up and competed in the SCCA circuit as well as dirt bike trials. Over the years he received many awards in both forms of racing.
When he was no longer racing on the track, he loved to spend weekends watching Formula One and Indy Car races as well as tinkering on various cars and motorcycles he owned.
For the past 25 years, he enjoyed Saturdays with his buddies drinking coffee and swapping stories. Allen’s mischievous side was exaggerating stories just to see if any of his friends were gullible enough to believe him. Although he always showed a tough exterior, he had a big heart and was very loyal to his friends. Throughout the years his four-legged companions tugged at his heart the most.
Allen was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and husband; he will be greatly missed and remembered with immense fondness for those who knew him.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, Fred H. and Evelyn Brady and brother Lee Brady.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dava, his daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Mike Turner of Austin, TX and grandchildren Matthew and Brady Turner of Austin, TX.
