Debra Lynn Belous

Debra Lynn Belous, 49, of Bixby, OK, passed away Saturday, February 4th, at her residence.

Debra was born in Ogdensburg, NY on June 29, 1967, a daughter of the late Therese (FitzGerald) and Adolf G. Fischer.

She graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1985, and from Syracuse University in 1989 with a bachelor of arts in Art History. She worked as an Editor at the Defense Department for 15 years before retiring in 2007. She also was an accomplished writer and editor for Chicken Soup for the Soul. She will be remembered as a loving mother to her children. She loved animals, especially cats, and was a faithful volunteer for a number of different animal shelters. Debra was passionate about the environment and world peace. She was a member of Unity Center of Tulsa where her husband, Rev. Dr. Richard Belous is the senior minister.

Debra is survived by two daughters, Rachel Belous, 13, of Bixby, OK; Therese Belous, 2, of Bixby, OK; a step daughter, Catherine Belous, of Baltimore, MD, three step sons Joshua Belous, of Alexandria, VA; David Belous, of Charlotte, NC; Michael Belous, of Laguna Niguel, CA, a sister, Karin Fischer, wife of Rick Holloway, of Saxtons River, VT. She is also survived by her nephew, Ezra Holloway of Saxtons River, along with a host of other family members and friends including relatives in Germany and Ontario.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Thursday, February 9th at Unity Center of Tulsa in Tulsa, OK with Rev. Chaz Wesley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nature Conservancy or Unity Center of Tulsa.
